Mississippi Travel Guide

Mississippi is known as the “Magnolia State”. The 'Magnolia State' has plenty of scenic beauty, and rich history, particularly associated with the Native American tribes that pre-dated European occupation and the battles of the American Civil War - the key battle of the war was fought at Vicksburg in 1863.

The two major cities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast are Biloxi and Gulfport. This area is a Mecca for beach-lovers, gambling enthusiasts and fishermen. The waters of the Gulf of Mexico lap the shore while the lights of moored casinos, such as the Boomtown Casino in Biloxi, sparkle. Jackson is the capital city of the state.

With its blend of cities and countrysides, history and contemporary appeal, porch swings and riverboat gaming, Mississippi has something for everyone. Jackson is also home to many museums, such as the Mississippi Museum of Art, which contains the state's largest art collection, and the National Agricultural Aviation Museum. Visitors yearning for the great outdoors can enjoy more than 150 campgrounds and six national forests to choose from, offering opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking, cycling and boating.

Natchez, the oldest permanent settlement on the Mississippi River, is the jewel of the South region, which includes 26 miles of wide sandy beaches with a fine selection of resorts and fishing villages. And everywhere there is music… blues, country and rock ‘n roll.
